As one of New England's oldest auction houses, Stinson Auctions offers a complete range of appraisal services for individuals, banks, estate executors, institutions, government and businesses. Using our experience and knowledge of the antique world, Stinson Auctions appraise hundreds of objects annually. Appraisals can be arranged at our Reading location or by in-home or on-site appointments.

While we do provide free estimates (see below), written appraisals are subject to a fee. Typically, three copies of the document including a standard certification of appraiser are submitted to the client, while one copy is retained and kept confidential by us. Stinson Auctions provides both Fair Market Value Appraisals and Replacement Value Appraisals.

Fair Market Value appraisals reflect the realistic resale value of property from a willing seller to a willing buyer with both parties having a general knowledge of the market. Fair Market Value Appraisals are customarily used for estate tax purposes, pre-estate planning, equitable distribution or tax-deductible donations.

Replacement Value Appraisals are for insurance coverage, intended to reflect retail replacement value. A detailed insurance appraisal includes the medium, size, country of origin or artists and a description of each object that will assist in identification in the event of a loss or damage.

Complimentary estimates can be arranged at our Reading location or in some cases, at an individuals’ home or other convenient location. Free estimates can also be obtained by sending photographs via US Mail or digital images via e-mail.
